Caring For Your Quilt Art

Unembellished quilts may be washed on the gentle cycle in a machine with a gentle detergent such as Woolite or Orvus Quilt Soap. Carefully transfer quilt from washer and never wring or hang a wet quilt. Quilts can be dried in the dryer on low heat or air, or dry flat. As with any quilt, try to keep out of direct sunlight as it can fade the fabrics. To refresh photographic transfers, iron on medium heat.

Embellished quilts and wallhangings should be hand washed and dried in the dryer on no heat/air, or dried flat. In between cleanings, quilts may be vacuumed to remove surface dirt. If quilt or wallhanging is extremely embellished always vacuum or hand wash.

Because I use only cotton batting in all my quilts and wallhangings, regular washing and drying will accentuate the texture of the quilting. If you want to store the quilts or wallhangings, do not store in poly bags; ideally, as with any fine textile or piece of art, store in an acid-free box. Acid-free boxes can be found at lightimpressionsdirect.com or at many photographic/framing supply stores.
