08 01 2010Well, gone a week, and a feeling a little bit guilty about the lack of art that happened in that week. It was a hard week, however. First there was the tornado that snapped huge trees like twigs in the yard; then, as we headed out for a much needed vacation 2 days later, both my hubby and I were hit with some kind of sinus infection from hell that had us both needing antibiotics and feeling as though we'd been run over by trucks. By the time we were feeling human again, vacation was just about over. At least before we left, I ordered some assemble yourself black metal frames for some of my small art cards. I wanted to try them out, see how they worked as a way of presenting these little art pieces. I misunderstood the instructions on the website, and so what I thought would be getting me a frame with some room around the piece of art is really actual size of the art, framed. I think it still looks nice, but not quite what I was expecting. Here are 4 of them, framed up today. This little bit of work on art to get me back into the groove...

And did you place them on the printer's cabinet just so I could love the art AND it's environment, too? SALIVATING! ;o)

What can stop art (temporarily)?
A tornado can!! We had one, yesterday, National Weather Service confirmed what I already knew as I watched the rain go in a complete circle in my back yard. Here are the results of the storm. The huge tree in the photo at right is right outside my studio door. Took out about a 3 foot section of our gutter, and literally just missed the house.
As we get ready to head out on vacation for a week, I guess I will take a short break from my art a day projects as we regroup, clean up, and calm down. Maybe I'll find some time to sketch a bit, take some photos and be thankful that everything turned out ok. See you in about a week!

Add your comment07 20 2010Stylized leaf. Wallpaper pattern repeat III. Art card. Oil pastel rubbing of vintage batik block over screen printed fabric. Copper foiling, quilted. About 5 x 5 inches.
Add your comment07 19 2010Results of the monoprinting from the other day. Here is the blue now washed and rinsed out, and what remains. As I had hoped, some of the rusting shows through the dyeing. Here is an overall view of the piece so far (color of the blue doesn't seem to be quite true to what it is...see scans of details for better representation):

Add your comment07 16 2010Navy blue! Pine boughs! I've been wanting to add some blue to this orange and rusted work in progress for a while, and today was the day. I snapped off a couple of small branches, laid them onto a plastic sheet, and painted them thickly with thickened fiber reactive inks. Then, I laid them onto my in progress fabric, and did monoprints across the cloth.
Here's a detail of some of the printing over the already screen printed and rusted cloth. I'm hoping that the blue will end up slightly transparent after washing so you can see the other printed layers underneath.
Mess I made on the plastic sheet and the monoprint leftover paper towel. Think I just may keep that for something!
