Rainy days are good days to bum around the studio and see what can come to life. This afternoon, while trying to unearth my work area, I found parts of art quilts I had cut out and gotten ready to use, but never found just the right project.
As I mixed elements together, I flipped through an old ledger I bought for cheap at an antique store years ago. Guess I had never flipped through the whole thing before because all of a sudden this bright red silk ribbon floated out. On it in black is printed R. R. "Bake" 1906. I wonder what this actually is? A prize for something at a long since past bake sale? It's not a blue ribbon...maybe red was second prize?

I am torn between using these things I collect in my art, and hoarding them, afraid to "ruin" them by cutting them apart, or sew them onto other things. It is true, what someone once said, about nothing thwarting creativity as much as preciousness. These items can't be so precious as to just stash them away, never to see the light of day again. Although this ribbon didn't get used in today's work, I think it has a home in an art quilt or art card soon.
